‘Samples’ are one of the cool things about ebooks. I don’t have to stand in the bookstore reading, but can preview it from the comfort of my home!
I seen reviews/recommendations of books that sounded like something I would enjoy - only to get into it and …“blah, this is not catching my interest!”
I am 68 and read whatever I feel like reading: ”Young Adult”, classics, stupid romances (but not too stupid, please), & mostly SF-Fantasy
I will not read horror or modern ‘dystopian’, and have not read a biography since my teen years - and tend to avoid books with only the ‘Best Seller!’ lists to recommend them.
I read to please myself or learn something (which actually is still in the “please myself” category) and don’t give a flying fig what anyone else thinks of my tastes.
I have known the word ‘maudlin’ since… well, we won’t go into that, but my point is, part of my joy in reading is learning new things - like words.
