The Tintin series started me reading graphic novels. From them I got my love of action stories. Then I graduated to Yoko Tsuno. I got my love of sci-fi from her.
My favorite book series was Fantômette.
The latter two featured strong (but not bitchy) female characters. They refined my own brand of feminism.
Not on an actual bookshelf and not a real book, per se, but I have kept a copy of “the Eye of Argon” by Jim Theiss on my computer. It is right there, along with my book and short stories.
I do not think you can write much worse than that.
