School made me loathe Goethe (Schiller is nicer to read, fight me on that), and The Handmaid‘s Tale.

Counterpoints, though. In uni, I had to write in depth analysis of quite a few books that I didn’t like any less afterwards. I’d recommend Mary Elizabeth Braddon‘s “Lady Audrey’s Secret” or Tomson Highway’s “Kiss of the Fur Queen” (bit of an emotionally rough read), if you want books that hold up even after analysing them to death

Ah nice. I read The Picture of Dorian Gray a couple of weeks ago and love Wilde’s writing style.

Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson. No particular reason I hadn’t read it before, it was just… ‘not the time’. I only read particular things when I’m in the right mood for them and I knew I wasn’t in the mood for that one for a long time.

Now that I’ve read it, it was a tough read. Not because it is not well written—it is, in fact, very well written—but because the themes are quite difficult to read about. It’s a great book tbh. No regrets, but I won’t recommend it to people without giving them a few content warnings.
