This may not be a trope, but I hate authors that go into a huge description over useless crap. Like describing a person’s bedroom that says nothing about the character to paint a picture of what the room looks like when they never return to the room the entire storyline.

Also, descriptions of city building and architecture. I skip that paragraph 100% of the time.

Why would you finish that book? Haha. Have you ever just gave up and put the book down? I’m trying to think of one, but I even finished The Awakening by Kate Chopin for a school project. I never finished Book 7 of a Song of Fire and Ice but that was only because I left the book on an airplane. I only had like 20 pages left anyway

Hemingway was an exceptional alcoholic writer. It is common for authors to be alcoholics and there is a connection between intellect and alcohol/depression: the smarter someone is the slightly larger chance they turn to substance abuse. Ever heard of Hunter S. Thompson? F. Scott Fitzgerald? Edgar Allen Poe? Bukowski?

As someone who’s struggled with alcohol since age 18, I think a lot of good writing can be done while drunk or hungover. You just have to proofread it afterward, haha. But this trope has been upheld time and time again.
