Lots of right-wing lunatics have written incredibly cringey fiction. Ben Shapiro and Scott Adams (Dilbert guy) are the first ones that come to mind. You can find a bunch of episodes of Behind the Bastards, Chapo Trap House, and Trashfuture going over books like these.

It didn’t stand out to me until my wife pointed it out, but the “every female character wants to sleep with the male main character” thing really is off-putting.

Also, I really dislike the time travel problem where no matter what changes you make in the past, it always makes the future worse.

I had the same experience with Catch-22. I remembered thinking I was cool for reading it at 15 or so, but I knew there were parts I wasn’t getting. I read it again a year ago and was amazed at how much more I enjoyed it.
