The Handmaid’s Tale. Sooooooo freaked out as a female that this scenario is entirely possible. Glad I read it, but won’t do it again.

SO MANY…somehow when I was @ 10, I found some list similar to 1000 books you should read before you die, and as a voracious reader who thought the YA of the time was all junk, I dove right in! I read so much Steinbeck, Hemingway, Poe, Austen, the Brontes, you name it. And, of course, Catch 22.

I recall my grandmother having a talk with my mother when I was 13 that my reading Gone with the Wind was not very appropriate, but my mother just shrugged.

I’ve been trying to re-read these when available, just so I realized what I missed!
