The average American adult likely reads some fraction less than one of a book per year. For everyone reading 100+ books there are 20+ reading zero.

Honesty, had I not finished the book like 2 hours before writing that comment I don’t think I’d know either.

I also just finished it:

1. To frame Christian because Christian knew about Alicia seeing someone outside her home.
2. Because kidnapping someone, tying them up, stalking them and then pretending none of that happened is a good way to lose your license and wind up in the hospital where you work.
3. He thought she wouldn’t be found. Opiates depress respiration and you wind up not breathing if you don’t get an opiate blocker fast enough.
4. Stalking and kidnapping are also illegal.
5. To prove that she could frame him for the murder and see what he would do.
6. Trauma

So, chances are you actually do the same thing when you are reading in print and don’t notice. You either pause your attention when something else catches it while reading a physical book or you re-read a sentence or two. The audio book doesn’t react to your personal attention, so it’s more noticeable that you are going back.

I don’t feel bad for people who willfully choose hate. I also don’t think he was ever compassionate, he’s a person who chooses to be a part of a particular religion and his writing mirrors the public face of that religion over the decades.

And this is why elementary level libraries have different books than middle or HS libraries. Most elementary students aren’t interested in reading this either as it doesn’t relate to their life experiences, it does relate to the experiences of middle and high school students. We don’t put To Kill A Mockingbird in elementary libraries either

It’s also not appropriate that most teens have friends who have had those experiences but it’s the world we live in. Unfortunately, the folks enacting the book bans are in full denial of the reality their children and other children live in.
