I’m always amazed by Nabokov’s mastery of English, considering it wasn’t his native language.
I just read On the Road for the third time, and I was actually surprised by how beautifully Kerouac could write. I loved reading his stuff out loud to my wife before. This time, though, I was reading, and I was struck by this image of him as a painter, painting out scenery with words rather than pigments.
Personally, I get a kick out of people who complain how bad 50 Shades and all of its sequels were. 🤣
Yeah, isn’t H.H. literally narrating from a psych ward or prison? Kind of hard to relate to for most of us, I think.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but I get the sentiment. There were people who went ga-ga for it even though it’s just mediocre writing. I thought it was a fun read.
I liked Ready Player One for all the geeky nostalgia. Not 5-star liked, but still, I wouldn’t kick someone out of bed for it. Lol

Strangely, The Road was much more disturbing to me than Blood Meridian. Actually, I found Stella Maris more troubling than Blood Meridian. Maybe it’s the same way I am way more scared by psychological horror films than gore fests. He was one hell of an author.
