The Known World comes to mind.

I’ll be very proud of myself if I actually finish this book. I’ve been working on it for a bit, it’s too big to travel with.

A huge slog. I did not enjoy the unabridged copy so much, but I appreciate that I finally read it.

There is a book club, in California I believe, that has been meeting for 25 years to discuss only this book. It was recently published in the newspaper. I applaud their commitment.
