Shapesmith is a martian who is taking the form of Rus Livingston, the astronaut who was possessed by the hive-minded Sequids as a host to allow for the takeover of Mars and potentially Earth. The only thing Shapesmith has done wrong is lie about his origin and race, keeping the potential Sequid threat a secret from Cecil and the Guardians. He is completely disconnected from Mark at this point.

i don’t think this is true. Mark’s gotta be involved in the Sequid mission. really an important milestone for him. Also tension on the mission after he kisses Eve.
