  • That’s actually crazy. I don’t understand why they would change the story that significantly. I think the BBC did a series on Z for Zachariah. It’s very old; but from what I remember, they followed it exactly to the book. I think it’s on youtube to watch. It seems a lot of film adaptations want to make serious books into feel goods. I thought They did The Book Thief bad as well. They turned a very sad book into a feel good movie. It’s very frustrating.

  • I love z for zachariah! I saw the trailer for the movie and decided not to watch it. Wasn’t that film about a love triangle or something?

Ready Player One was the worst film adaptation. One of my favourite books and I literally stopped watching the film halfway through. I have never done that before, but I was genuinely that angry over how much they changed.

  • I was never any good at reading at school, nor could I spell for toffee, much less understand punctuation. I hated school and education; it was a miserable place for me. I taught myself to read and write when I left and had full control over my own education. Nobody would guess this nowadays; I can read anything and absolutely love it. But, I have never impressed anyone when it came to reading.

  • The Primal Hunter by Zogarth.

It’s about an average office worker, who gets transported along with his work colleagues, into a new world/system. It claims to be a tutorial, as earth is undergoing changes by a new ‘system’. Basically, it’s RPG come to life. They all have to pick their classes and level up, by defeating beasts, dungeons and occasionally each other. The protagonist at the beginning, is a socially awkward loner unrecognised by everyone. But he thrives in this new world.

I loved it so much, that I’m currently on book 3.

  • As someone who was horrendously bullied for years; I’d suggest doing things for yourself, and start brushing off people’s comments. It starts by taking care of your body. It sounds like you’re taking care of your mind fairly well; books are an excellent escape. Go to the gym. Walk/jog in nature. Build yourself up. You deserve it, and you’re much better than people pin you as. The damage bullying has done will never go away, but you can become much stronger from it.

    Z for Zachariah by Robert C O’brien.

Read this in school and absolutely loved it. It’s about an apocalypse from a nuclear fall out. Only one girl is left alive in a valley untouched by the radiation. She is surviving well, until a man finds his way to the valley. It is written like a diary by the protagonist. Such a good book. Quite an old story. Highly recommend.
