Can confirm, I’m from the northeast and a lot of midwestern accents sound southern to me. I’m not sure if I would confuse Kansas and Texas because I think of Texas accents as pretty strong, but maybe I would.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I’m from the northeast and have a lot of family in northwest Ohio and they all sound southern to me. Certain midwestern and southern accents kind of blend together for me (not the midwestern accents that sound Canadian, obviously, like those in Minnesota).
