Ulysses by Joyce. I have tried and tried and then waited 10 years and tried again. I cannot. I’ve read the Cliff’s Notes and that’s as far as I’ll get.
Yet this book is on almost every top 10 books of all time list.

The end of The Dead by James Joyce
Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, further westwards, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling too upon every part of the lonely churchyard where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.
I consider it one of the best books I’ve ever read. The writing style makes it tough to read but you have to just take it slow and find the rhythm. (That’s what she said).
But it’s also about more than the old west. An allegory for hell. You have to take easy and admire it for the sheer craft of it.
