I love Middlesex, but nothing else Eugenides has written is readable.
He showed so much promise in Perdido Street Station and The Scar, but hasn’t produced anything readable since.
The Girl Next Door leaves scars.
Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates.
I expected some insight into incels and pick-up weirdos, but this book is absolutely not intended to share facts in any way. There is no scholarship or research whatsoever – the book is literally a long blog post about all the guys that pissed her off on the internet when she was pretending to be a toxic woman-hater.
She presents no evidence that isn’t unprovable anecdote. No studies were used. No screenshots were offered. The author has no training or background is psychology (or research?) . I genuinely can’t believe this was allowed to be published.
If you have an answer other than Judge Holden, you should read Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.
