Book 1 was already a slog

I dropped 2 when the maguffin was stolen out from under their noses for the 2nd or 3rd time

From the receiving end, my parents read books to me in the evening. At one point I got impatient that they were busy and went fine I’ll read it myself

Past that, my school fortunately didn’t have such a toxic environment, so shame on your teacher

The problem we had was kids thinking they were “cool” for not reading

Otherwise rational characters taking blindingly stupid actions with little thought. Typically pulled for plot advancement. This is true across basically all types of media, and if it happens I wind up putting it down for months or more
