The characters only meet through their letters with a couple of exceptions, so some say the love story is unbelievable. For me, it reflects the extreme isolation and loneliness of their work and how even minimal tenuous companionship of a peer would satisfy a gaping need.

Its also an interesting look at privilege and seeing people for all they are and accepting it, instead of the boxes or assumptions you may want to use or default to.

People attach to the technology and I think for some it becomes an intro to hard-scifi which its really not because the tech is just gibberish and poorly implemented. You will hear routinely “interesting ideas” “interesting concepts.”
For some I think the implementation of the technology and all the gibberish that lead up to it, including how they arrived at that tech and still can’t solve their problem creatively, tanks the book even more. For others the tech carries even if its badly implemented and the lead up to it is trash and the characters have no personality and make no sense.
According to his breakdown its not just rent, its car rental, food and utilities also. So not 75,000 for rent.
He counts it that way. He apparently told her that he can afford 75,000 a month kick in. He says he is paying rent, car, utilities, food.
For everything, she phrased it as you told me your monthly kick in would be 75,000 pesos per month. He stated he is kicking in for rent, car, utilities.
She didn’t expect him to pay $1300. She asked what he can contribute and he provided a number. Also it wasn’t 1300 for rent, it was 1300 for everything according to him, rent, food, car, etc.
