I don’t think the death threat was effective in the sense that it was about death or murder. I think it was an effective verbal slam of the door that was their prior friendship, and his link to their family. Another way to say, “I will never forgive you; I will never be okay with you even entertaining the idea of coming close to me or my family again; and lastly, you’re a piece of shit.”
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to keep BoJack away from Penny while he was on his bender with Sarah Lynn.
I don’t know if there would have been any other effective course of action minus telling reporters; but that would have undoubtedly hurt Penny worse than she was already hurt.
