The Hate U Give.

Honestly not that poorly written, but I just felt like it was capitalizing on the cops killing black men horrific news/protests/counter protests cycle. I also thought the scene with cops was inserted so early into the book that I just found it in bad taste and unearned. My girlfriend loved the book though so maybe I should’ve stuck it out?

Yup. Found the book from a George RR Martin interview. I really liked it, though it felt like the author wanted to make certain parts political but wouldn’t go all in on it, made for kind of shoehorned side plots. Good book overall.
