One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig. The magic system was needlessly confusing. There were characters with similar names and far too many of them to keep track of. It was written like YA but sold as an adult book. She reuses words and phrases so much it made me cringe (Burgundy, Captain of the Destriers, “the invisible string tugged at the corner of his mouth”). Also, did no one notice that the love interest pushed his ten year old brother down the stairs at the beginning but we are supposed to root for him? Worst book I have ever read.

It’s really rare that I don’t remember anything about a book. But The Silent Patient was so unremarkable, I completely wiped it from my memory.
