Journey to the End of Night. Celine is so abrasive and antithetical to my stylistic preferences but he’s one of the greatest writers of the 20th century I can’t deny. It’s all truth.
The penultimate chapter of ulysses is entirely in questions and answers.
Actually there are a lot of cool chapters but this one, the nighttown one that’s a play, and the one where the chapter passes through different historical English writing styles, all such funny ideas played out well.
Fitting the 3 decades I guess, DFW’s Infinite Jest centred what Woods has come to call “hysterical realism”. As for introducing anything, nobody else really picked up on his whole footnotes thing but they’re certainly rather novel.
Don’t read these, you’ll get depressed after the 1950s.
Wharton is the best. Weird movie though.
