In Cold Blood.

It’s hard not to feel sorry for everyone involved. The family that was murdered senselessly. The criminals, one who had a personality altering head injury and the other a childhood of abuse. It’s such an incredible book and literary achievement.

Same experience for me. I think he had his big car crash between 4 and 5 and then he rushed through the rest, presumably in a pretty sketchy place mentally. I was enjoying them quite a lot until then. Tons of other popular cutlture references. Like a Harry Potter novel just turning up somewhere. So cringe.

I totally forgot about this. I love Jim too. Why is it so bad? Isn’t the audiobook by Jeff Daniels, which I love so much?!

Now, I’m only around 2/3 of the way through, but daaaaamn is it boring. My god. Don’t give a shit about any of the characters and I’m having to force my way through it. The grammar style I respect for doing something different, but it’s also a chore.

It’s a Pulitzer Prize winner. I read this immediately after Lonesome Dove, another PP winner. One I couldn’t put down and the other I want to throw away.

Did anyone else like this book and why?

Sounds amazing! I love the idea of having a window into that time period.

Me too. I honestly think that book is a masterpiece.

And somehow, I adore Dr Sleep. I went in excited but didn’t expect it to be so good. The portrayal of alcoholism really hit me.

Why?

I just read Lonesome Dove and some people were saying this as something to read. I’ve also got it on my shelf.
