I don’t think any book is inherently made just for a target audience. You can read a book about two gay men and still find it worthwhile in the romance department, even if you yourself might be a straight man. Same with any other pairing.

I feel as though my attention has gotten worse as I’ve gotten older versus the other way around. I’m easily distracted by being online, on my phone, watching films instead, etc. I do want to get back into reading, but I have niche interests so it’s harder for me to find books that’ll keep my interest.

Honestly, it’s hard to read folks who were writing in the day and age of meeting word quotas. A lot of unnecessary text that makes it impossible to read through for me.

I haven’t read them, but I know folks had issues with the Wheel of Time series. But I think they generally liked the idea.

I’ve been lucky enough that any book I’ve read has been a decent read. But that’s probably because I check the first few chapters before really delving into a book.

I personally do not have a problem with this. I think even YA novels are for mature adults. They’re not always softcore, and they could have fantastic plots for any audience.
