I’ve only read the hunger games as a book, but I believe the audiobook is by Tatiana Malsany who is a fantastic actress. I’m a huge fan of orphan black that she acts in. So I’d recommend it off of that alone

How to be single. I actually thought this was a decent movie about enjoying where you are at in life. The book was about all these obnoxious women where it made sense why they were single.
The princess diaries. Sure it was fun at parts but overall MIa was pretty annoying.
Controversy but LOTR. The movies are perfection but the books are outdated and overrated. I’m a huge fantasy fan too.
The devil wears prada! Maybe this is elevated by the two leads but overall I thought the movie made great changes and was fun to watch.
The maze runner films and insurgent. I thought these made enjoyable action films

The hunger games is more about reality tv and child soldiers. Nothing to do with communism lol. Plus the differences in class

I remember thinking this was so bizarre because I went to a Catholic elementary school and we read it in class. But that was in Alberta and catholic schools are basically the same as public schools so a lot of parents will just put their kids in them if they’re better then the public school in the area

The looking nice is also subjective because I hate the look, feel and space of hardcovers haha. I purposely preorder books internationally to get paperbacks.

I personally hate hardcovers and only buy paperbacks. I do find American ones to be a little cheaper quality then UK covers, but I’ve generally never had an issue with them lasting. Maybe if we’re talking years, like I have hardcover Charles’s dickens books from the 1870s and the binding is just starting to come out and my oldest paperbacks are only from the 1950s and the paperback binding is starting to come out. But I don’t think that most people are keeping books that long so you’re fine getting paperbacks if you like the look/price more.

This is one that I don’t think I’d like and am not really interested in but I’m curious about the hype. If someone’s hyped I’ll almost always pick it up. But I usually end up hating them

The kite runner. Truly one of the worst books ever written. Reinforces stereotypes, terrible writing, terrible plot, and tries to present the main character as likeable when hes terrible. Absolutely nothing redeemable for the book.
Every book that is booktok hyped. The Spanish love deception is one. Idk if I just found better people on booktube but I have a way better track record of booktube recs.
From blood and ash By JLA. Straight up terrible. There is no plot. It’s like sailing in Zelda wind waker with a few plot islands. The romance is groomy. Writing is awful. The world building is purposely vague and confusing then info dumping. Plus the last line “come on princess we’re getting married” is all time bad.

I think it’s actually an interesting discussion piece. Are classics better just because their old? I’ve read many classics that are just bad or just haven’t aged well (HG Wells for example) and I’ve read a lot of modern books that are good and stuff that sucks. Are books like Harry Potter and the hunger games going to be considered modern classics or modern childrens classics like Alice in wonderland or tuck everlasting or just pop culture hits like on the road.

We read it in class and it’s the only time an entire class has hated a book. Maybe that’s why? It’s definitely still overhyped though. 1984 and clockwork orange are much better dystopians.

I agree with you! I love that they have romantasy and wish they still had an urban fantasy/paranormal romance category, but please bring back MG! I also dislike how they got rid of poetry and graphic novels. It’s like saying only full books are acceptable reading material. There should be a short story/anthology category too.

Romantasy is just romance with a fantasy backdrop. They’re adult. Women can write adult books. I know it’s shocking, but women can.
There is YA and adult that fit it, just like there is for scifi, mystery and fantasy. It’s similar to paranormal romance but with more epic fantasy elements.
