I actually find it kinda irresponsible when people like Devin bring their partners to places like Searcy where they could face open hostility (and she even acknowledged that there are plenty of small minded people there). As the American partner who is aware of the environment in America, it’s on her to bring her partner to a place where he will feel safe and also comfortable. Searcy is not that place.
Hell, I’m an American, but I’m also Jewish and LGBTQ+, and I mask in public because I have severe asthma and there have been places I’ve traveled through and deliberately made the choice NOT to stop for gas or directions because I did not feel I would be safe there (cough confederate flags cough). And that was just driving through, not living there. I’m not saying Searcy is one of those places, but it doesn’t seem like Nick is gonna be comfortable there either.
