I think people who read Ishiguro probably mostly read high quality literature and their review really only compares his work to other books of a similar standard.

I read for entertainment but also I try to avoid finding out much about books prior to reading them except for knowing that it’s probably good so I would only find out if a book is traumatic or not when I got up to that part in it.
I think it’s helpful if people identify what kind of book they are talking about, but of course everyone is different so their classification is not going to be universal.
To me Game of Thrones is pretty indistinguishable from any other light reading fantasy including YA, but to fans I am sure there are big differences.

What do you mean “if you could”? I can rate any book I want 0 stars.

Probably embroidery and hunting.
Not a movie, but the Expanse tv show was vastly better than the books.
I found a lot of the internal monologue of the characters in the books to be particularly tedious but the show cuts that out and immediately makes things way better. But also the show runners are working with a much more complete story so while they are telling one story they are also setting up the next one which I think is a lot more fun than the more self contained books.
