Oh gosh. Narnia, Pern, Xanth, the Belgariad, the Elenium. Two standalones I remember loving are Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville and a story called The Thingamajig by…somebody. I haven’t been able to find it again. It’s about a boy who finds an alien trinket and plugs it into his dad’s ham radio and contacts the aliens who left it.
No arguments there. I think the reason I don’t love it as much as the others was because it’s so jarringly different (to me). I get what you’re saying about reading feeling like home, for sure. Thanks for an actual answer!
