I noticed that sometimes I just choose books based on a combination of if the cover art looks cool, or just interesting, and if the title is also interesting. And when you put those two together, it kinda creates its own little vibe.

Foe example, I saw the cover art for the book “Fallen” by Lauren Kate, with this goth girl in a black dress in a dark forest, and the image alone was enough to get my attention. Take that dark, goth image and mix it with the title word “Fallen” and it kind of creates, in my mind at least, this vibe or aesthetic that’s reminiscent of the band Evanescence, or other things that have fallen into a similar vein.

I know nothing about the book, I won’t even read the back, and I’m going to read all 5 in the series purely because the vibe hooked me in.

Is this a normal thing? Am I just crazy? Have you done this? Would you do this? What are your thoughts?

It’s a potluck. Sometimes you get something really good (I picked up Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell without knowing ANYTHING about the book and adored it) and sometimes you get something really bad (picked up the Girl in Red because the cover looked cool and it was the worst book I read last year)
