It’s interesting how the lack of indoor plumbing has come up separately in the last two seasons, firstly with Dempsey and now with Rob.
Both Dempsey and Rob want children, but don’t have indoor plumbing. I’ve seen lots of people mention how its delusional of Rob to want children when he doesn’t have indoor plumbing, but nobody do the same with Dempsey.
Now, I think most people would agree Rob is a douche and Dempsey is a saint, or at the very least a decent person because of their behaviour on the show.
But it’s interesting how most redditors will jump on Rob’s lack of indoor plumbing as a way to criticise him, and yet barely anyone used that against Dempsey.
I get it, Rob’s a douche, he needs humbling so people will throw whatever they can at him. But people are using indoor plumbing as some sort of benchmark for what a piece of shit he is, and not using the same metric with Dempsey. I feel like it’s just used as a shorthand to criticise everything else about Rob (that is definitely worth criticising).
I’m not saying its wrong. I’m just interested by this behaviour.
There is zero chance that Statler or Dempsey will get surprise pregnant from having sex. There is a decent chance that Rob and Sophie could. I wouldn’t put it past Rob to sabotage birth control since he seems controlling.
Babies don’t need toilets. /s
Sure, his lack of indoor plumbing is just an easy thing to come after because his personality fucking sucks.
He also refuses to acknowledge it as a disadvantage. Dempsey is able to admit that the toilet and lack of comforts will be difficult for Statler to adjust to, so much so, she doesnt know if Statler should move in with her at all. However, Rob pretends the outhouse is akin to any regular, living situation and that Sophie expressing any dissatisfaction about the bathroom is nothing more than a reflection of her privilege.
While Dempsey is just another person on reality TV that I don’t know; she presents to have self awareness and consideration of her partner. While Rob consistently displays self-centered behavior and doesn’t even seem to like Sophie as a person.
It’s less about the bathroom and more about him as a human being. Because talk of kids, for someone like him? Emotionally that is literally putting the cart before the horse. He’d be nothing but trauma to a child, he doesnt have a modicum of self awareness.
Maybe because Dempsey had a clean, nice home in a safe environment. She has plans for a bathroom and just needs it plumbed? Rob is a big douche nozzle who doesn’t think lack of bathroom is an issue.
I think it’s as simple as, he’s terrible and so gets attacked on all points.
Dempsey is a sweetheart so we are more forgiving.
I think it’s partly due to the reasons behind them not having a toilet being very different.
Dempsey’s doing a whole homesteader hippie thing. Having to crap in the woods just fundamentally comes with the territory, there. Rob’s just broke and living in a shithole.
Rob has no drive to keep his girl. Wtf his problem?
I’m thinking it’s possible people criticize Rob more because of the way he reacted and responded to Sophie when she mentioned it to him. He told her she was bougie for wanting a bathroom inside, and this was Dubai or London. He was a total a-hole to her about it, imo. And again my opinion, he always IS an a-hole to her. He treats her like crap, and talks down to her all the time. Honestly, I don’t know why she stays with him, just based in his treatment of her. At least what we see.
Also on board with the fact that Dempsey was not aware of statlers plans to move in, and was up front that her caravan was a work in progress and she would have to put in a whole water system… whereas The Knob knew that she was moving there permanently.
Their relationships and goals also seem really different. Rob & sophie seem to want that influencer LA lifestyle, whereas Dempsey and statler have decided on the van lifestyle. They can still have kids with no plumbing in that lifestyle, they’re prepared for it in emergencies at the very least. Sophie wants different levels of comfort than Dempsey does, I could see her wanting her children to live off the land and be caravan-ing with their kids. Neither are wrong, but just different viewpoints.
Dempsey actually worked for a living. Big difference.
Rob is trying to marry Sophie and have kids almost immediately whereas Dempsey wants children in the future and is only dating Statler. Dempsey also has a career and a good head on her shoulders. I’m sure she would be willing to abandon the lifestyle she has now in order to secure a better future for her children. Rob seems content on staying where he is until one of his get rich quick schemes land, family be damned.
almost immediately
Did he say this? I don’t remember that
Dempseys place had a toilet (probably compositing which is why Dempsey couldn’t poop in it) and a shower and sink w running water. It was also a really nice “mobile home” which was furnished like an adult ,… rob has sheets up for “walls” keeps a poor dog outside and has a “community” bathroom that looked vial from far away I can only imagine how dirty it was… I don’t think you can compare the two… in terms on the living premises.
Dempsey - new nicely furnished mobile home that has a full and functional kitchen, bathroom with running water (just not hot) and sink. No pets …in her 20’s wants kids in the future. Has a full time job
Rob- 30ish. Lives in what looks like a converted commercial space with a “make shift kitchen” does he even have a stove. I remember seeing a fridge and a bunch of small electric appliances in some bookshelf thjng. Clothes on racks (hence no closet) random old furniture with a sheet for a “wall”. NO bathroom inside his dwelling … with one shared bathroom for however many people live there that looks like no one cleans it… car held together w plywood … no real job… and has a poor dog that he crates outside in high heat and cold and did I say
No real job…I personally don’t think that either of them are ready for kids BUT Dempsey’s place is far superior to Robs living conditions and I don’t think comparable. Now if you start to mention “closet mom” that may be more relatable to Rob in terms of there is no way they could take care of child in that place and lifestyle
