I mention several book quotes every now and then, but find myself using a ridiculous amount of times “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something”, from The Hobbit.
Tolkien really nailed it with that one, it is applicable to so many situations. I even say it to myself often.
Do you have any quotes that you say all the time?
Evil begins when you begin to treat people as things - Terry Pratchett, Carpe Jugulum
Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under. - HL Mencken, Prejudices
“It must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.”
Please post book quotes to /r/bookquotes. Thank you!
I hope to be the person my dog sees me to be.
To myself mostly.
Short version: Tao of Pratchett. I live by it.
Long version: Build a man a fire and he’s warm for a day, set a man on fire and he’s warm for the rest of his life. Tao of Pratchett. I live by it.
- Harry Dresden, Cold Days
I’ve found myself reciting the litany against fear from Dune in situations where I become anxious.
“Is there a felicity in the world superior to this?” — Sense and Sensibility
Anytime anything remotely good happens to me.
All the time you spend tryin to get back what’s been took from you there’s more goin out the door. After a while you just try and get a tourniquet on it.
Cormac McCarthy
It’s not time to worry yet. - To Kill a Mockingbird
