Why would Ted NOT be at Beard’s wedding?
Yes! This has bothered me from the moment I saw the finale. It makes no sense.
„No, it wasn’t all a dream.
During a Reddit AMA pegged to Wednesday’s Ted Lasso finale, series co-creator and star Brendan Hunt (aka Coach Beard) debunked the popular fan theory that the series’ epilogue — a quick succession of flash forwards that culminated in Ted waking up from his transcontinental slumber — was a dream sequence.“
Jane was a bit uncomfortable by their relationship, maybe she requested it.
I think it was more of an artistic choice that it would’ve been weird for the entire Series Finale to culminate in Ted leaving to go back to America only to show him right back in England 20 seconds later in another scene.
Like, yes, we know time will have passed, he can always come back when he feels like it, but I do feel like if they showed him right back in the UK it would’ve undercut some of the gravitas of him leaving.
Although I know in real life, Ted could be in nearly constant contact with his London friends, there is something to be said for him being truly present with the people he chooses to be with (Henry certainly, and perhaps Michelle). That means he’s going to be in Kansas and make his life there. He can’t truly live his life with one foot in both worlds.
What this person said.
The one thing I did not like about the finale was how it seemed Ted cut off any and all ties to his time in England. This is not the 1600s, it is pretty easy to get back and forth. I do it several times a month.
I really would have loved to see Ted return home, but have Rebecca give Ted something like 2% ownership of the team, so he would always be a part of the club and it would not have felt like such a hard ending.
Could have had Ted on FaceTime like Jane at the funeral. Would be a good callback and more appropriate (than at a funeral).
Brendan Hunt answered this during his AMA.
“Hunt was also asked why Ted wasn’t present for Beard’s wedding. “There are a few reasons,” he explained. “The first is narrative: Ted just got on a plane and left the UK, [so] it would be anticlimactic and deflating if we suddenly see him back there before we even see his plane lands. The other is that that’s just the kind of friendship Ted and Beard have.” He also pointed out that he missed fellow co-creator Joe Kelly’s wedding, which also came together at short notice, and “no one cares! Our relationship is the exact same, our families live down the street from each other and we see each other all the time.”
To me it seemed like once Ted’s mom came to visit, a massive emotional shift happened in his character (a hardening or something, compartmentalizing?), and he never turned back.
I couldn’t disagree more. Idk how you thought this, but it’s wrong. If anything, he lightened up. He didn’t have to make all his jokes and try to get people to love him immediately.
Beards weeding takes place in the dream Ted is having while on the flight back to Kansas. That’s why seemingly everyone from the whole series is there and the entire scene is a bit overexposed.
Only reason I know this is because Brendan Hunt talked about it in his AMA after the final episode aired. Cheers my friend!
Perhaps it was more spontaneous than it looked.
Beard and Jane don’t strike me as big advance planners, yeah.
Same but apparently it was confirmed to be a dream Ted was having on the plane.
