I vaguely remember she had a crush on him, which was part of the reason she accused him (albeit not the main reason); but I’m not sure if it’s explicitly stated in the book or if it’s just the impression I got. It’s been a few years since I read it, so I don’t remember much; I probably should reread it and find out the answer, but I do remember when I read the book I got so angry (I don’t remember ever being angrier about a book than that) so I’m definitely not ready to reread it yet 😅
Atonement is my very very favorite book. It’s my desert island book. If I could only take one, it would be atonement. I’m really curious why people hate it, I know it’s controversial. Anybody here who hates the book explain exactly why they hate it? Is it the gut punch of the reveal, I know that my mother felt betrayed by that last minute switch up.
I hated Briony too much to properly appreciate the book 😅 I didn’t hate the book though, I was angry at it. I wouldn’t think a book is ‘bad’ because it has an unlikable character, I just couldn’t stomach this one very well
I got the impression she was infatuated with him. I think he treated her well not knowing how she felt. I was angry with just about everyone in that book.
She reminded me of the child in the movie ‘Bad Seed.’ though she wasn’t a serial killer.
I thought she had a crush on him, and was confused by her feelings and his actions with her sister. She was confused by sexuality itself, really.
I’ve only seen the movie and it was awhile ago, but yes I believe so.
I definitely read it like that, but it’s been a few years so I don’t remember any concrete lines or pages I could point to for support. It’s just the impression I got.
