I thought “maybe he’s not that evil” but
- He could’ve pick him up once he was done
- He decided to involve more Maulers instead to beat him up and stop him
Because he isn’t that smart actually. He might be somewhat knowledgable taking him by his words and all versions of him are keen on collecting knowledge. That’s all we got.
But a thousand of him couldn’t figure out the Maulers machine.
He didn’t actually bother collecting any knowledge between his clones.
Heck he talked about curing cancer but somehow treated it as something that could not be done unless all knowledge was merged into one head. Not knowledge of “curing” cancer mind you, but about “finding someone who can” - because that’s something you cannot outsource appearently…
Yeah I think people just think he’s a genius, he’s a little above average at best
This was my first thought at the end of S2E1. This guy spent so much time explaining how he was seeking all this knowledge and working hard to make this possible through the multi-verse, the other versions of himself, the noble causes he was after, observing everything he could, etc. Then suddenly he’s finally got all this info in his head and he turns into a complete one note moron?
Literally his only takeaway is that he needs to get futile revenge against a single superhero - specifically the dimension version of him that isn’t even evil (and based on his reaction I would have to assume that almost all other universes have Mark as evil and siding with Omniman - I haven’t read the comments but that also makes almost no sense considering Mark’s default personality, all of them go completely evil every time and this dimension is the only exception?). Yet he shows no nuanced understanding of it at all lol. That is so stupid I don’t understand it.
Even though what Angstrom was doing is 100% morally ethical and wouldn’t have hurt anyone, his ego prevented him from taking the easy way. He has to be the one that solves cancer. Angstrom craves the credit. That’s why he’s a villain. His ego prevented so many people from getting help.
Because that would be a different story than the one the creators wanted to tell
Terrible answer
But it’s the correct one
Making Invincible go into a portal is needlessly hard when he can just make the Maulers distract him. There ya go, I didn’t have to resort to “uuuuh the writers wanted it to happen” as if that’s a good writing defense.
Maybe he couldn’t.
I think he really didn’t expect anybody to see what he was doing as an act of villainy (despite being really weird and not telling anybody what he was doing), and was probably just too flustered in the moment to make the smartest choice
I get it seems like a plot hole, but I’m gonna play devil’s advocate…
So during this time Angstrom was understandably under A LOT of mental strain. He didn’t expect anyone to show up, no less someone who The Mauler Twins would have great difficulty dealing with.
Therefore, as it’s an extremely high pressure, high risk situation, he defaulted and remembered all the other Mauler Twins he had stashed in this very room, and brought them into the fray.
Yes, he could’ve opened a portal for Invincible, but that also includes Invincible actually going through the portal. From what we’ve saw so far he can’t open a portal on someone, and since Invincible was comfortably dealing with the single pair of Mauler Twins, he could’ve easily avoided said portal.
His portals don’t move to my knowledge. Even if he put it directly under invincible, the guy can fly. It’s not a fool proof idea.
I stated above that if invincible was flying in a certain direction, he could just open a portal in front of him. That way he’d get in before he could stop
Cuz the he can’t force him to fly into a portal
Jesus it’s so simple guys, I expected people to repeat this defense like a fucking violin
I stated above that if invincible was flying in a certain direction, he could just open a portal in front of him. That way he’d get in.
Honestly the whole setup was really silly. Out of infinite dimensions, he chose the one where the Maulers were just broken out of prison and obviously wanted. There’s not a single reason to do so, but he just happened to pick it and the Maulers didn’t question it. I get that they are not that smart but that’s just very conveniently stupid
He can’t choose a which universe he goes unless he’s already been there. He can’t will himself to go to a universe where everything is exactly as he wants it, he has to find it and with infinite universes where in most of them mark is evil this was probably the best he could do also our marks universe is his universe
Fair point, although he did claim he had access to a universe without supes
I like to imagine the whole situation stressed him the hell out and he didn’t handle it very well and chose to do the first thing that popped in his mind
I don’t think people understand how his portals work. I’ve read the comics years ago, so I might be wrong, but I don’t remember him being able to physically move the portals around once they are created. He simply chooses where they’ll appear, so he wouldn’t be able to force Mark or the Maulers into it.
But also, the areas where he opens a portal correlate to the same place in another dimension. This means that when he helped the Maulers escape prison he had to find a place deep enough to be able to reach them down there. That’s probably also how he was able to save that particular Angstrom we saw at the beginning of the episode, by creating a portal on the ground so that he could fall into.
So that’s a possible way he could have helped, by making a portal on the ground, but like he himself said, he doesn’t have the knowledge of the alternate dimensions (that’s why he needed the machine in the first place), so there’s no way for him to know which dimension could have a crater or sufficient space to pull Mark through a portal on the ground unless he did his research first (like how he did with the Maulers).
All this, plus the fact that the rest of the Maulers were grabbing onto him, so some of them might have fallen in too, which wouldn’t be much help.
Angstrom was overwhelmed by the machine, getting all this new information injected into his brain, plus the stress from the situation and it’s clear that he wasn’t acting rationally at the moment.
No matter how smart you are, we all make irrational decisions from time to time. This just happened to be one of them and with terrible consequences at that.
The portals are static, it’s hard to force a super powered super fast hero to go through a door unless he wants to. Like, even if you dropped a door next to me, that doesn’t mean I’ll go through it.
Or considering how all the maulers stopped beating up mark as he started to take off the helmet he could just say “leave him be or I take off the helmet”
