I have two. The Ritual and Drowning.

The Ritual is pure smut. 61 chapters and every one contains a graphic, demeaning sex scene. I’m convinced the author was an adult film screenwriter and decided to try their hand at writing a novel. There isn’t a single likable character in this book.

Drowning isn’t a great work of literature. I felt that the characters were very two-dimensional. I hated how naive the author made the protagonist. It made me have a lack of sympathy for her. The ending was series finale of Dexter bad.

I feel really bad saying this but… Britney Spears’ memoir. It was just soooo bad. The writing was comical. They glossed over 99% of her major life events. It sounded like a diary written by a 12yo.

For fiction, it was The Only One Left by Riley Sager.

I loved it but I had to move my brain into “this is totally campy” mode to get there.

I say this as a Riley Sager fan but I felt like he finished The Only One Left by spinning a wheel with different “twists” on it and kept going. You thought this but wait! What if this? But wait! Just. C’mon. End it already.

Not my favorite. And it felt predictable. Of course that was gonna happen to the house. 🙄

It was written by Britney…like the poor woman is trying to tell her story and as a pop star with a ton of trauma I don’t expect her to write like Baudelaire. Is this the best written piece of literature? Absolutely not. But I’m not about to judge someone who finally found the strength to tell their story after years of physical and mental abuse by people who should have protected her on how well she writes the story.
