I have two. The Ritual and Drowning.

The Ritual is pure smut. 61 chapters and every one contains a graphic, demeaning sex scene. I’m convinced the author was an adult film screenwriter and decided to try their hand at writing a novel. There isn’t a single likable character in this book.

Drowning isn’t a great work of literature. I felt that the characters were very two-dimensional. I hated how naive the author made the protagonist. It made me have a lack of sympathy for her. The ending was series finale of Dexter bad.

Undertow: Scenes From a Slow Civil War by Jeff Sharlet. Couldn’t even finish it, and that is RARE. Especially since I think this is a really interesting and urgent topic, and all this guy does is sort of waffle around in the annoyingly overwrought antecdotal episodes that feel like a middle schooler trying to hit the minimum word count for an essay. Also, and this is something I don’t think has ever bugged me so viscerally before, he has this really irksome prose style that you can tell hes very impressed with himself for every word he spills onto page.
