In S1 E3, we all know that Sarah Lynn shows back up into Bojack’s life after a public mental breakdown. During the drive to the hospital after she stabbed herself, Todd expresses concern and says “She is losing a LOT of blood Bojack!” Bojack just replies with “beautiful day though, right?” This may not have been intentional, but I think that was already foreshadowing him waiting 17 minutes to call 911 during her OD in S3. He’s definitely not driving her as fast as he could be with that sentiment.
I thought you were gonna say about where she says that shell die tragically young at the end of prickly muffin but that too
theres plenty of foreshadowing. this, saying that she’ll die tragically young, her not having a reason bojacks funeral will be the next one cause she’s high, and her saying the only drug she needs is horse. i’m sure there’s more Im missing but this is off the top of my head
It also feels like foreshadowing after prom with those kids that when the girl has alcohol poisoning, he doesn’t want to take her to the hospital for fear of getting caught, and he only does because Pete Repeat insists.
And maybe it’s just a coincidence, but it seems interesting that this scenario (young girl passed out sick from a substance Bojack gave) repeats itself twice in the show, the first time with a character called Pete Repeat + this repetitions of 17. I think they writers really wanted to emphasize that Bojacks behaviour has been a pattern.
I’ve been thinking about Sarah Lynn recently. I’ve been thinking about whether Bojack in his own weird way thought he was doing Sarah Lynn a favour. She says in the early episodes that she will wind up dead young and that its out of her hands…she never even tries to take control, even when she’s pretending to be sober she’s not… everyone does everything around her… then they go on that mad bender and bojack witnesses her win an Oscar and still feel empty and useless… I think he realises at that point that they’re the same and she will never ever find happiness… her last words are that she wants to be an architect and she says them in the one place she wanted to be more than anywhere else… maybe he thought she would never be happier than at that point. Not at all a justification for his actions but maybe, just maybe that was the logic after consulting his heart of hearts… just as it was that his birthright was to be doomed and miserable, the same goes for her… her parents exploited and abused her, as did his (albeit not sexually as implied her step dad may have)…
