I normally only go for series that are fully done already, but there’s a couple that I’m super interested in that aren’t yet and won’t be for a good while but I’m still interested in starting them now. But this weird feeling akin to anxiety comes up of not having a proper ending for something or being left on a cliffhanger that makes me feel weird. So for people who can read things that aren’t finished yet, how did you get used to it?
I understand exactly why you feel this way, I’m the same a lot of the time. What helps me is looking into the author’s previous releases. How much time is between them? a year or 3+ years? How many books are planned for the series? If a trilogy is planned and two books are out and there’s a strong chance I’m going to start the series if there’s only a year between releases. And then you can also spread them out a little bit if you want to because you know when the next book is coming.
I just enjoy the journey. You’re overthinking this.
It becomes an exercise of imagination for me, so if the series is unfinished I can think about how the story would go, how would the characters react, how would the world be built out further.
Still a fun way to enjoy an appealing series without stressing out.
