Hi everyone. I decided after a long time to give A Little Life a go, it has been in my to read list for ages with all these controversial comments I read about it. I’m 88 pages into it and I’m struck with how badly it’s written. Seriously, was that book even edited??? I mean there is no flow whatsoever in the narrative, the sentences are just thrown in there and sometimes I have to reread some of them over and over to make sense. I’ll keep reading it though because the story and the characters are quite encaging, but I can’t help myself thinking of what a masterpiece would that book be if it was written well. It’s a shame such a strong story to be spoiled by such a bad narrative. I’ll come back to this post when I finish the book, I hope I change my mind by then.

Opinions will really be split in this sub over this book.

My opinion is that it’s poorly written soap opera trash. The style doesn’t change as the book goes on.

I just finished it this morning and cant decide if I hate it or love it. I dont remember the writing style bothering me. I think it could’ve been about 300 pages less and still accomplish the same story. But Jude is a character that will stay with me for awhile -whether I want him to or not
