Ive been rewatching Bojack horseman and I just realized that in S4 E11 Times arrow (The one with his mother’s dementia) at the end when she and bojack are talking he says “Can you taste the ice cream mom?” And she looks down ands says “Oh bojack its so… Delicious” BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT ICE CREAM TASTE LIKE BECAUSE SHE HAS NEVER HAD ANY SO SHE HAS TO LIE 😭😭😭. Im sorry if this was obvious to some else but its the first time I noticed it

Yea, for once they both lied to eachother to make the other one feel better… One last genuine gift in a relationship built on selfishness

I know you think you’re onto something, but I really find it hard to believe Beatrice lived her whole life as an adult without ever tasting ice cream. She did move on from her parents at a young age. She knew what it tasted like. The point was that Bojack turned and entered into her dementia approaching her with kindness for once instead of being angry and hateful.

Freezie Pop (basically an old timey popsicle) which is vastly different from ice cream even back then. Plus she only got like one taste. Given how traumatic that night was, she probably blocked it out

I hate this lie, there is clearly a point young Beatrice is eating a popsicle

There’s also a dementia flashback where she’s visiting Bojack and when he opens the fridge all you see inside is lemons and sugar. Im guessing her mind was filling in the gaps of details with snacks she was familiar with :/

lmao i had this reaction when i noticed it too, it’s a really cool bit of writing that is so heavy that you can’t help but lose your mind a little bit. beatrice was such a sad character, damn now i wanna watch the show again

To me, it represented a sort of awareness that Beatrice had towards the end. That she knew that she was losing it, and that Bojack was just consoling her, and instead of acknowledging that, she decided to just go along with it.

Whenever I hear the line, I just can’t shake how exhausted she sounds, almost like a parent trying to play along with a child’s imagination. Either way, the fact that fans are able to draw so many different but valid conclusions from a single line of dialogue goes to show how talented the writers of the show were.
