The final book, Temple of Fortuna, is set to release tomorrow. After reading the first two books I am eager to hear others opinions about the trilogy thus far.

Spoiler

  • Did the second book ruin the series for you or build your connection to the characters?
  • How did you feel about Amara going into debt with Felix to buy Victoria and Britianna?
  • Should Amara have killed Victoria or would this ruin her character?
  • Will Rufus find out the child is not his? Will him and Felix team up to get revenge?

For me, the second book built my relationship with the characters. I did not agree with Amara buying Victoria and Britianna. It was stupid for her to work that hard to be freed to then owe her master. She could have saved money from her loan business and freed them later. I cannot believe she got pregnant with Philos. Amara fell in love with Philos and Meander when she wasn’t thinking about surviving. This is her biggest character flaw. However at the end of both novels she goes into survival mode and breaks their heart.

I hope the third book is similar to the first and less of a love story. I want Amara to stay focused on benefiting her daughter and herself without dragging hopeless lovers along.

    1. The second book felt different but it definitely built my connection to the characters and offered a view of them living a different life than when we met them, which feels very personal.
    2. I hated that she went into debt to Felix, but I loved her devotion to the women in her life. She might have been able to anticipate Victoria not working out so well, but she acted true to her self when she made the choice and I respect that.
    3. I felt that her not killing Victoria was another instance of her being true to herself and her beliefs. Even if I did see it as a reasonable option in that circumstance.
    4. I’m sure Rufus will find out- how could he not? And if this was set up to be a trilogy from the beginning, I have to brace myself in case Amara doesn’t make it out alive.

I’m looking forward to the 3rd book, but I’m a mood reader, so probably won’t read it immediately. It took me almost a year to get around to the 2nd book even though I already owned it.
