I thought maybe he was just trying to be polite in the translations. IIRC his mum said “you are prettier in person” he translated I think to “ you look beautiful “ . I think just trying to keep everyone happy and keep a somewhat stressful situation lighthearted no one would be offended? Hopefully in the future once everyone knows each better he translates more accurately.
Yeah I thought he kept that dinner leveled by his translations honestly.

My daughters name is Devin. She’s 30 and likes her name now. But she hated it as a teen and she (not officially) changed the spelling to Devann so it was more girly.
