I can’t believe she didn’t hug Mary during that whole church scene. I don’t like Mary but I literally wanted to hug her when she was crying & sharing her feelings with the mom
When Brandan’s mum sat down beside her, Mary scooched away a little bit. If I had to guess Mary is not a “hugger”. She seems like the type that is super clingy with Brandan and repulsed by everyone else. maybe Brandan’s mum was just reading her body language
