I have too much time and decided to write an analysis of Sarper from a Turkish perspective in case it’s of interest 😂

First of all, I’m from Istanbul. Sarper’s family seem middle to upper middle class to me. His career choices (stripper, fitness instructor etc.) would not be considered a success by his family so he probably feels that he has somewhat failed in life.

On the other hand, most women that he interacts with in his daily life (colleagues?) are probably of a poorer background. He would not consider them to be “good enough” for him and his family. Similarly, he would not be considered “good enough” for women who come from a similar socioeconomic background to himself due to his career.

That really only leaves him the option of marrying a foreigner and trying to build a life abroad. Shekinah is his way of saving face.

Thanks for this analysis! Many noted here that Sarper’s family seemed surprisingly normal, even classy. Not the type of people who’d be thrilled to be related to a stripper turned fitness instructor who’s still unmarried well into his 40s. It doesn’t help that he’s an only child therefore his parents might be especially disappointed with his career and lack of children. They all did seem to like Shekinah quite a lot.

I thought the same. He definitely speaks English well and he even used a Latin phrase (carpe diem). It’s clear he’s an educated man just with an interesting lifestyle.

    Thank you for your perspective.

Sarper’s mom said that it was the woman’s roll to give in to her husband and sacrifice her own wants and needs if her husband wants a child.

Is that mentality common in Turkey?

It’s an expression “Be embarrassed or humiliated, especially publicly. For example, Terry lost face when his assistant was promoted and became his boss”

I think the person above you was making a joke about Shekinah’s face before surgery or after surgery

Thanks for that breakdown. It’s always good to hear the perspective of someone from the actual culture and not just speculations.

I’d just add that there’s no middle class in Turkey

They’re upper middle class and educated for sure

I’m in Istanbul too. I can’t figure out how he can afford his own apartment and a car with the job he has. His parents must have helped him.

My exact thoughts!!! Also Turkish. The first thing I thought about him was that he could never find a woman like Shikanah in turkey. Turkish women would see his bullshit right away. He is a loser if you ask me. Its just a cultural thing where it’s easier to see the red flags early on

All those 2500 people probably slept with him, maybe had a good time and continued with their life building deeper relationships. They treated him like a bad boy like he says and Sarper made this his entire personality. Just super cringe to see him being proud of that

Honestly I’m surprised Shekainah doesn’t see through his bullshit. I feel like any woman from any country should be able to….

Turkish women would see his bullshit right away.

To be fair, I’d like to think a lot of American women would see through his BS.

He’s not exactly subtle about his red flags (“I told you I didn’t want kids when we met because I was trying to f*** you”). She is just in a sex haze and can’t see what’s right in front of her. What she finds cute now will be extremely annoying if they spend six months together.

He knows his parents think he is a loser. Thats why he is trying to appease them with a grandchild.
