She did, she calls him a narcissist for the biography, says “i read the parts about me, the things i said to you. You must think i’m a monster… I know you want to be happy but you won’t be, and i’m sorry.”

I don’t think this is nice at all. She’s essentially absolving herself of any responsibility for Bojack’s issues and saying that no matter how hard he tries, he won’t ever get better. It’s a really dark moment for Bojack based on lies.

I think I need to clear something Beatrice is the worst, and I know she is NOT apologizing from Bojack and that Bojack wasn’t Broken from beginning. What I meant was, there are people who are worse than Beatrice, at least, she sees Bojack is struggling…

I don’t know if that makes her any better. If anything, to me that makes it worse…at least rhe person who does not notice or acknowledge it cannot change. You cannot fix something you do not know or don’t want to admit is broken. She knew and she twisted the knife in anyways.

She’s sorry for him not being able to be happy. She isn’t apologizing for her actions. Her actions here mean nothing good.

All shes doing is admitting she and his dad were shitty parents and was bound to fuck him up mentally. Theres no comfort in that.

On one hand, this is probably the closest thing to an apology or an attempt to make amends that Beatrice makes.

On the other however, it’s such a disastrous, half hearted, emotionally damaging and lacking of accountability attempt that I don’t know if it should even count as an apology.

It’s not even a “I’m sorry, I feel bad for what I did to you” like Bojack did with Herb. Of course, a mere apology after decades of abuse wouldn’t have entitled Beatrice to Bojack’s forgiveness, just like decades of abandonment wouldn’t entitle Bojack to forgiveness from Herb after his apology.

But still, what Beatrice does here is not even that. It’s less than an apology, it’s sort of a “I’m sorry you feel that way” kind of statement, putting the blame on the other person for being hurt for your own actions.

I’d like to think that reading her son’s book in which he expresses what a shitty and miserable excuse of a mother she was, Beatrice felt some sort of cushioned, muffled wave of remorse (I know expecting true guilt from someone like her is too much to ask) which motivated her to even call Bojack in the first place.

But this call also reinforces an incredibly toxic, depressing and self defeating mindset Bojack already had and from which he would greatly struggle to get rid of until the finale: That he is poison, a piece of shit, always was and always would be.

So yeah… Fuck Beatrice. She didn’t deserve what Joseph did to her, but Bojack didn’t deserve anything of what she did to him. She’s probably rotting in the same hell Butterscotch and Joseph are. Let’s hope that the poison of those three people isn’t strong enough to drag Bojack with them.

People aren’t born broken. we’re born with a half developed brain, and our experiences in childhood through adolescence determine the rest of that development. Bojack was broken over years and this dialog is just Beatrice taking one more opportunity to traumatize bojack further

    Yeah, she’s such a good mom /s

Seriously though: If you think what Beatrice is saying here is nice by any means, you just fell for her manipulation.

Nope. Bojack was not “born broken”, she and her husband took part in breaking him. She is sorry “he was born that way”, to me that reads like “I’m sorry you feel that way”. She does not take accountability, so her “sorry” is completely empty. She is one of the worst mothers I’ve seen in any piece of media.

I actually hate this scene because, like in real life, Beatrice has the opportunity to apologize but she turns it back onto her and avoids taking true responsibility
