I was never into reading most of my life, but now I’m a junior in high school and after reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman in my English class I realized what I was missing out on. I told my family about this they were extremely excited. I asked my dad if he had any good book suggestions and he said that Michael Crichton was his favorite author and all of his books are great. I did some research and found out the wrote the novel version Jurassic Park . My family took me to Barns & Noble where we bought the two books. My father told me that he had read the books and that they were better than the movies. I finished reading Jurassic Park and I agreed with him. If you have not read it yet I highly recommend it.

For all that i disagree with crichton on many issues, he is a very good storyteller and good at setting up interesting elements in a story to keep you interested in it.

I read Jurassic Park at age 12 in less than 24 hours. Couldn’t put it down. The movie is good, the book superior in almost everyway.

Favorite MC book is Prey, which is not popular as a favorite. Too much work experience with micro biology and reactors to not enjoy.

Has a little more relevance with the AI advanced today

Anything that changes at exponential rates (IMHO) is a potential threat to humans. Viruses, AI, nuclear reactions, credit card debt. Human minds are better at linear responses than non-linear responses.

Never read the book since I already seen the movie numerous times. But since everyone is suggesting to read it once, I am going to next week! thanks for the suggestion!

The movie is perfection. But it’s a perfect movie.

The book just simply has more. More different dinos (there’s not just one T-Rex), more interactions between humans and dinos, and more talky-talky stuff (as my daughter would call it) that’s actually pretty interesting.

It’s funny, in the movie, the T-Rex just magically shows up back at the main building to save the day. In the book, the T-Rex >!follows them all the way back from their initial encounter!<.

They really toned down the movie to be family friendly. It would’ve been R-rated if they went by the book. Lol.

I too just read it! It has been on my list for a long time. I’m kind of doing this thing where I’m going back and reading the books that were turned into some of my favorite movies.

Crichton’s books are great. I am glad you enjoyed the read. There are tons and tons of other good books out there. I highly recommend you give Isaac Asimov a look if you think you’re into science fiction.

Crichton is pretty much the only non-fantasy author I read. You’re right, he’s brilliant. I reckon I was about your age when I read it too.
