A lot of times, when you get big name people in voice acting, they just kinda do their talking voice and call it a day. And I was honestly expecting more of that for his Allen, and I was worried for when we got to more Allen centered stories.
But I actually liked his performance. He seems to have a distinct voice for the character. And we didn’t have any occurrences of his infamous chuckle in it either.
It makes sense I guess, he’s an executive producer on this, and I think he really wanted this project to happen.
I do believe it is both. I know he loves both Invincible and Nintendo but the two are apples and oranges, really. Mario is a kids movie so his ‘direction’ was probably just be loud and silly for the children, whereas Allen is, obviously, a much more important and fleshed out character with a completely different audience.
