A lot of times, when you get big name people in voice acting, they just kinda do their talking voice and call it a day. And I was honestly expecting more of that for his Allen, and I was worried for when we got to more Allen centered stories.
But I actually liked his performance. He seems to have a distinct voice for the character. And we didn’t have any occurrences of his infamous chuckle in it either.
It makes sense I guess, he’s an executive producer on this, and I think he really wanted this project to happen.
He’s actually a more capable actor than he gets credit for because, like Adam Sandler, he mostly does movies with his friends and just plays mostly his self. In things that require more range and nuance he has always nailed it(other than green hornet)
Better fitting than Super Mario Bros imo. Either he’s more invested into this property or the direction was better.
I do believe it is both. I know he loves both Invincible and Nintendo but the two are apples and oranges, really. Mario is a kids movie so his ‘direction’ was probably just be loud and silly for the children, whereas Allen is, obviously, a much more important and fleshed out character with a completely different audience.
Surprisingly his voice works very well for the character. He usually plays dopey people in movies but here he comes across as quite stern and confident
He had a great, dramatic role in The Fabelmans recently, and that gave me a lot of hope for his growing role on this show.
I honestly had no idea it was Seth Rogen until just now and I really liked the portrayal.
Now if only we could get Jason Mantzoukis to do LESS voice acting. Like, take it down a notch or two.
I had to stop listening to the How Did This Get Made podcast because of him, and found We Hate Movies which is far more superior imo. Comics whose shticks are being LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS I’m not into. He speaks in exclamatories all the time.
So when I tell you that Rex is tamer than average, believe me. Still annoying but at least a character is attached to it.
I feel inclined to agree. He always seems like his mic is turned up three levels above everyone else’s. It’s a little irritating.
NGL, the *ONLY* thing I know about Seth Rogen is his crazy weird stoner laugh.
But he’s great as Allen the Alien!
You were worried because of donkey Kong? Haha
Given that he’s a producer, I’m guessing this may be a bit of a passion project for him.
Seth Rogan isn’t a good actor but he has that friendly voice and attitude so people like his performance anyway. Most Seth Rogen roles are just different flavors of himself.
I don’t really like Allen’s performance, but the personalities are similar enough that it’s not unbearably bad.
Seth continues to prove he’s more than just a bong with glasses.
