A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has said he's written 1,100 pages of next book The Winds of Winter, the same amount he'd written as of December 2022, while also revealing there are eight Game of Thrones spin-off shows being worked on.
Editors are too afraid to say to GRRM “Hey, this is crap. Trim it down.”
You can read the first three pages and the last three pages of any chapter from any of his books and figure out what happened in between.
”Hey George, these 400 pages of Tyrion travelling very slowly nowhere are crap.”
”Fine, I’ll add 200 pages more.”
That happens to all popular authors. Their books get thicker and worse because the editors can’t touch them.
