And it drives me bonkers. I’m reading The Dolphins of Pern rn.
Aramina: “My plot x-ray tells me that 16 chapters and 6 in-story years from now my son is going to need some family conflict. I better throw a fit, decide I hate dolphins for absolutely no reason and forbid him ever to have anything to do with them.”
🙄🙄🙄
Perhaps she is trying give a metaphor for prejudice.
Then it sucks and she’s not good at it?
The only reason to read the later books at all is because you are a super fan of the series.
I still recommend the Menolly books, Dragon Singer and Dragon Song as middle grade to young adult reading. The series generally has not aged gracefully
I get your complaint, I really do. But here’s the painful truth: She probably knows people who actually are like that.
No, because people aren’t like that. Real people don’t conveniently and magically have irrational opinions because Plot.

Real people think there were 5G tranceivers in covid vaccines to track or control people, or that it was the mark of the devil and having it would get them sent to hell. I know one person - a real person who actually exists - who more than once compared vaccine exeptions (which had to be worn in public if one was for whatever reason exempt from wearing a face covering) with yellow stars and pink triangles. She refused to wear a mask and refused to display a card because “that’s how the Nazis started”.
Real people think Donald Trump was a worthwhile president of the USA and still support him as a candidate.
Real people believe the earth is flat.
I’m sure you can see where this is going.
Simple truth is, real people are fucking morons.
Is this the Aramina who could hear all dragons and hated the voices in her head, so that telepathic dolphins would really just be more of the same thing she already hated?
