I currently have three bookshelves, 2 up on the wall a foot and a half from the ceiling and 1 on the floor for my TBR shelf. When I moved I sorted my books by want to read (the floor shelf) and then just sorted kinda by vibes for my two other shelves. Its been a few years and I want to be able to find things easily, so now Im in an indecisive pickle. Thoughts?

I sort by genre, because it helps me notice patterns in my reading, that I can then get really into. I just recently noticed I’ve read a higher than average number of books on lesbian nuns, so now I’m specifically looking for lesbian nun books.

I organise by genre (and within that, all books by the same author together), but sometimes I will have a thick day and wander around vaguely trying to find things. Also, there isn’t always room for new books and then they’re in the wrong place! Go with what works for you

Alphabetical by author is what my autistic brain prefers, but as an editor I have a separate shelf for my vast collection reference materials.

Mine are separated into fiction and non-fiction and then by author. Books by the same author are sorted by title unless it’s a series, then they’re in the order they should be read. I have too many books that would fit in two or more genres to bother with genre

I organize by fiction, history, science etc. Then for fiction by genre and time period. Then by author name.

Afterwards, when I go away for a couple days, my wife then completely reorders by size and color for decorative purposes.
