Quite honestly I can’t stand only a few books that I’ve read, recently The Awakening by Nora Roberts.

Holy crap, do I reallllyyyyy want my money back. I was bored. So. Bored. The magic system was subpar, the characters just….ew, everything was so, so boring. The MC is an idiot.

What book is a zero star read for you?

Why are there so many comments and nobody has yet mentioned The Alchemist?

I could not hate a book more. As a student of history, I have occasionally thought that I should read Mein Kampf to better understand Hitler’s pre-war mindset. My fear is that I might find it less offensive than The Alchemist and I won’t know what to do with that.

I’ve tried 3 Coelhos and they were all pretty bad, the least awful was ‘Veronica decides to die.’ A good friend of mine LOVES him and loves The Alchemist.

I don’t get it at all. I thought I may get it if I tried a few more of his books, but nope.

Amen. I hate this book with a passion. Mein Kampf I couldn’t finish, but The Alchemist I just read all the way because I despised it so much and releasing all that negative energy felt good. It has a flimsy plot that is really meaningless, a character out of a fable that is just underdeveloped and a lot of platitudes made to sound like wisdom. And yet, it’s a worldwide bestseller in multiple languages.

This would have been my pick. I read it for a book club, and it got absolutely eviscerated, to the point that I felt sorry for the person who nominated it - not that anyone was rude about it, but we clearly all hated it.

The discussion for this book was my last straw for a book club I was in for about a half a year. I was the only one who thoroughly disliked it. The thing that was crazy about it was that it was obvious that everybody else in the book club had already read the book multiple times, thought of it as one of their favorites, and would defend it to their grave. I guess I’m just old fashioned in my perspective that book clubs shouldn’t be a bunch of people sitting around gushing over their most favorite, repeat reads… That’s what fan clubs are for.

Probably cause a zero is just absolutely terrible. I would give it something like a 3/10 at least. Wasn’t super profound, and main was annoying. But wasn’t insanely boring or anything.
